Bernie Lee is one of the most trusted voices in basketball representation, with nearly two decades of experience negotiating at the highest level. He is best known as the longtime agent of Jimmy Butler, helping guide him from overlooked rookie to one of the NBA's most influential players and highest-paid stars.

A Toronto native, Bernie's path to becoming an agent is rooted in grit, relationships, and relentless belief in his players. After early work with the Raptors and Five-Star Basketball Camp, he began building his agency client by client — landing Mike James as his first client in 2006, then John Lucas III, and eventually Jimmy Butler in 2016.

Today, as the founder and president of Thread Sports Management, Bernie represents top athletes including Butler and WNBA star Kia Nurse, and continues to advocate fiercely for every client's success and happiness.

Jimmy Butler on Bernie: "No matter what's happening, Bernie makes everything seem like it's not really that big, whether we're sitting down playing cards together, talking about family, drinking a glass of wine together, whatever it may be. Basketball — you worry about it sometimes — but if you let it eat at you all day, every day, it consumes you and Bernie never lets that happen."

Their relationship began in Chicago when Butler was a little-used rookie — the 30th pick in 2011. Bernie was there for his clients James and Lucas, but he treated Butler like he mattered. Butler remembers it: "Bernie was always around and he always treated me as a regular human being even though I wasn't that good of a player back then."
